Camp Scotty

Ahh... finally something to write about other than riding out my driveway on the flat windy roads around Lansing.

Since I'm short on time, I'll be posting stages of this trip over the next few days.

After a failed attempt at the GLR, I was ready for another trip out west to check out some trails, do more riding at altitude, and bake in the sun. With Scotty chomping at the bit for us to come out and spend some time riding in the Denver-ish area since his move there over 3 years ago, the coals were hot for partaking of his generosity. Adam was also ready to experience some asthmatic breathing and with that, Camp Scotty was born.

Per usual, it was the (same old)^2 with the pre-trip freakoutoverlivingliferushpackinggettotheairport plan. After an uneventful flight, other than the lady next to Adam ordering a Bloody Mary on the 6:40 a.m.-er, we arrived in Denver, assembled our stuff, and began our journey...

Day 1 - Saturday - Waterton Canyon

This is where the CT starts. Wow. After a gentle introduction of a gentle dirt road climb to the singletrack, it was promptly anaerobic into some serious steep granny-gear grade climbs, as would be the theme for the remainder of the trip.

No trail pics this day.

Stats for the day: 2hr 55min - 26.4 miles - 2934' of ascent

Day 2 - Sunday - Buffalo Creek

Today we meet up with Scott's friend Bernie for a ride through an area that has been hit by 3 fires from a period between 1996 through 2002, the last of which was Colorado's largest fire in history, the Hayman Fire.

Day 3 - Monday - Rest

We spent Monday getting our camping gear in order with a trip through suburban Denver to the army/navy surplus store and REI. On the road by late afternoon, we were off to Minturn and the long bumpy Tigiwon Road up the side of a mountain where we would set up our base for the next few days. Unfortunately, I have no pics of today or for the remainder of the trip.
